3 Ways Augmedix and Practice Fusion Improve

Your Practice

As digital charting has become the norm, the number of Electronic Health Records has proliferated. There are dozens of EHRs now available in the market. Choosing an appropriate EHR for your practice can be daunting; different EHRs have different functionalities, not to mention different costs.

Augmedix, a HIPAA-compliant documentation solution that simplifies the way physicians work with their EHR, works with a variety of systems. The healthcare providers that Augmedix engages with span a range of specialties and diverse settings, from small clinics to some of the largest health systems in the country, including Sutter Health and the Mayo Clinic. Our users employ a number of different EHRs, including Epic, Allscripts, and Practice Fusion–to name a few. As a result, our Augmedix scribes receive extensive training on many electronic health record systems.

One of the EHRs our scribes have been excited about is Practice Fusion. Unlike most EHRs, it is completely web-based and only requires an internet connection and a web browser.

We were interested in learning which features of Practice Fusion our hundreds of scribes found interesting so we conducted a survey among them, and reported these as some of the most interesting features:

Customizable and Communal Templates

This is one of the favorite features of our Augmedix scribe team, and it is one they said has particularly helped improve charting efficiency. Using ready-made note templates is one of the best ways to make charting easier. Our scribes constantly rely on the templates provided by the Practice Fusion team. However, healthcare providers have their own, very specific charting preferences and styles. One way our scribe team adapts to these preferences is by customizing note templates to exactly match a provider’s specifics.

What our scribes especially appreciate about Practice Fusion is that users can upload these templates and share them with the rest of the Practice Fusion community. In this way, our scribes and the providers we work with collaborate to streamline our providers’ medical charting.

Tablet Compatibility

Progress typically moves in spurts. Nowadays, health records are becoming increasingly digital: according to a survey of office-based physicians in 2013, 78% of them now use some form of an EHR. However, even if charting has moved into the digital age, many clinics are still fitted with outdated computers; desktops are set on a cart and wheeled from patient room to patient room.

Instead, imagine the ease of being able to carry a tablet from patient room to patient room. Practice Fusion offers an app that is compatible with Apple, Android, and Microsoft tablets.

Incorporating Feeback

At Augmedix we are working to remove the burden of medical charting from healthcare providers so they can focus on things like patient care and their family. Our scribe team works in sync with providers to do just that. Not surprisingly, our scribes have found that as customizable note templates streamline a medical practice, so too does a customizable EHR.

With this goal in mind, the Augmedix scribe team takes the initiative and submits their suggestions, as well as the providers’, to the Practice Fusion team. Practice Fusion welcomes this feedback. Because it is a web-based EHR, it can be modified quickly.
